St Hilarion Castle is located in the
occupied, by Turks, part of Cyprus near to Kyrenia (about 6km). Its easy
accessible from the motorway connecting Nicosia with Kyrenia.
The exact construction date of the
castle is not known but according to records it was existed when Richard the
Lionheart took the Island in 1191. Originally was a monastery, converted into a
castle by the Byzantines. Castle improved and strengthened latter by the
Lusignans.
Big part of the Castle and its walls
are maintained make it a worth seeing. The view of the sea and the city of
Kyrenia is breathtaking!
You need a car or taxi to
reach the Castle. There is a free parking at its base and a café. Entrance fee
is 9 Turkish Lira (around 2.25 Euro – July 2017). Summer visiting hour between
09:00-18:00 (last entry 17:00) and winter between 09:00-16:30 (last entry
15:30) -
