York Minster and the area around

Visited February 2018

The area around the Minster

This medieval cathedral started in 1291 and is in Decorated Gothic style.

Splendid medieval windows that all have …names. In the south nave aisle the third to last is known as the Jesse window which shows the “family tree” of Jesus.

In the north transept you can see an Astronomical Clock. THis is a memorial to all the air crews who flew from airfields in the north-east of England during the Second World War

The Organ has over 4,000 pipes which, laid end to end, whould strech around 7km!

The Quire Screen separates the Quire from the rest of the Minster. The 15 kings on the screen are the ones who reigned during the construction of the Norman and medieval cathedrals

Entry charge GBP 10 (for adults) apply for the Minster. The ticket is valid for a year / multiple entries
